In Rome, I would often hear someone calling, as though for a missing dog, from street to street. It was hard to figure out what he said at first-- "Dino" or some such? Finally I figured out he hadn't lost anything, but he was going around refilling people's wine casks, shouting "Viiinoooo!" to anyone who wanted a refill, or to alert restaurants who needed their casks of house wine refilled. While walking along with a friend last academic year, we saw the truck parked on one of Rome's tiny cobblestone streets, and I couldn't resist taking the picture.
