Last year I didn't make it to the March for Life, because I went on pilgrimage to Loreto instead. This year, there was a crowd though. We started at Piazza Repubblica, with Cardinal Burke and groups representing Italy as well as many other countries, including Slovenia, Spain, Poland, Canada, USA, Argentina, and others (in no particular order).
A few of us marched under the banner of the Angelicum, though our small flag was difficult to spot amid so many signs, banners, and flags.
And we finished at Piazza San Pietro in time for the Regina Coeli with the Holy Father (who did not surprise us this year by riding out to greet us on his popemobile.)
The total distance walked for this procession must have been around two or three miles, covering a large part of Rome's historic center as we walked past St. Mary Major, the Coliseum, Piazza Venezia with its Vittorio Emanuele Monument, Chiesa Nuova, Piazza Navona, crossed the Tiber, and ended at St. Peter's.
While you can't necessarily see him, Pope Francis is indeed at the window greeting those present after imparting his blessing at the Regina Coeli.
For the March, many people carried balloons to release upon Pope Francis' greeting, and soon the sky filled with colorful dots.
