Happy Laetare Sunday! We have passed the halfway point in Lent, and today see rose vestments! From here, things become more somber, as we approach the Passion. By now, the penances we chose at the beginning of Lent have become habits, or perhaps have altered with the difficulty of keeping them. Three weeks from today is Easter. Lent moves quickly in spite of penance.
Yesterday's station was at S. Susanna, where traditionally the longest epistle of the year is read, describing the tragedy of the woman falsely accused. Today, S. Croce in Gerusalemme (Holy Cross of Jerusalem, so called because it houses precious relics of the cross, as well as dirt from Jerusalem), where the pope would bless the golden rose to send to a Catholic monarch. Tomorrow, Quattro Coronati, The Four Crowned, but we don't know for sure who they were.
Rejoice, for our burden is easy and light--who carries it for us?
