Attende, Domine

... et miserere, quia peccavimus tibi.

Mardi Gras, Carnevale (bye bye meat), Shrove Tuesday.  Whatever you want to call us, it's come, and pretty well gone.

We've had our time to prepare for Lent.  Now we have Lent where we prepare for Easter.  Where we see more and more in ourselves that ugliness which nailed Jesus to the cross.  That in us which He willingly bore for our sakes that we may be cleansed, become truly free, and join Him forever in Paradise.  We have this season to recognize His love for us and our failure to love back.  We have this season to redouble our love for Him.  A forty-day retreat while still in the world.

Perseverance!

(Ash Wednesday's station church:  S. Sabina.  The Holy Father will say Mass there in the afternoon, but the NAC will start their Lenten pilgrimage there 6:45am.)
